Was mich reich macht
Ich heiße Frank, bin Jahrgang 1953 und führe ein Leben, das ich als sehr reich empfinde.
Als Nachkömmlings- und Nachkriegs-Kind habe ich die Folgen des Krieges und der Naziherrschaft nicht selbst erlebt, wenn sie auch zu Hause spürbar waren. Im Baby-Alter flohen meine Eltern mit uns fünf Kindern – die Geschwister teils schon im jugendlichen Alter – in den Westen. Ich wuchs dort wohlbehütet und geliebt auf und habe nie das Gefühl gehabt, dass es mir an etwas fehlte; welche Anstrengungen meine Eltern dafür unternahmen, wurde mir erst später klar.
In einer rebellischen und Gerechtigkeit suchenden Jugend- und Studiumsphase – Germanistik und Sport auf Lehramt – schien mir politisches Engagement das gesellschaftlich erforderliche, aber gemeinsam Musik zu machen das emotional Größte zu sein. Die Geburt meiner Tochter hat mich einen neuen Wert als unzweifelhaft höchstrangig fühlen lassen: Eine unfassbare Liebe zu diesem Kind und den Reichtum, diesen Menschen auf dem Weg in sein eigenverantwortliches Leben zu begleiten.
Viel später erkannte ich (legendär beim ersten Blick!) die Liebe meines Lebens und gewann sie als Partnerin – und mit ihr einen Co-Sohn, den ich für immer tief in mein Herz geschlossen habe.
Bedingt durch Lehrerarbeitslosigkeit fand ich nach dem Studium und Referendariat Zugang zu einem Kollektiv Theater- und Kulturbegeisterter (ich selbst hatte mit Theaterspielen zu tun, seit ich als Kind von der Straße weg „engagiert” wurde), durfte beim Aufbau der Oldenburger Kulturetage mitwirken und insgesamt fast 30 Jahre in dieser Einrichtung arbeiten (Presse- und Öffentlichkeitsarbeit).
Weil ich dabei immer gerne mit jungen Menschen zu tun hatte, bin ich dann nochmal für dreieinhalb Jahre an eine Schule gewechselt und durfte eine großartige, erfüllende Zeit als Klassenlehrer erleben, die mich allerdings (inhaltlich) auch sehr gefordert hat.
Mit Beginn meiner Rente am 1.8.2019 habe ich das Projekt gestartet, auf das ich schon ein Jahr hingefiebert habe: Mit dem Fahrrad die Ostsee zu umrunden, und zwar möglichst dicht an der Wasserkante lang. Deshalb fahre ich zum Teil Wander- statt Radwege und lasse mir Zeit. Mein Motto heißt: CARBON FREE ROUND THE BALTIC SEA. SAVE THE CLIMATE!
Von Anfang an wollte ich diese Erfahrung weitergeben und mir auch einen zweiten Traum erfüllen: Über Dinge, die mich bewegen, auf einer eigenen Website zu schreiben. Hier ist sie!
Weil ich gut 20 Jahre an der Ostsee gelebt, ihre Natürlichkeit schätzen gelernt und wunderbare Zeiten an ihr verbracht habe, dann mein erstes Projekt, ihre deutsche Küste an der Wasserkante abzulaufen, über Jahre verfolgt und jetzt schließlich ihre Umrundung gestartet habe, bin ich der Ostseefan und heißt meine Seite danach.

What makes me rich
My name is Frank, I was born in 1953 and I lead a life that I find very rich.
As a post-war and post-war child, I have not experienced the consequences of the war and Nazi rule myself, although they were felt at home. When I was a baby, my parents fled with us five children – the siblings partly already at a young age – to the West. I grew up well protected and loved there and never felt that I was lacking anything; what efforts my parents made for this only became clear to me later.
In a rebellious and justice-seeking phase of youth and study – German studies and sport as a teacher – political commitment seemed to me to be the socially necessary, but making music together the emotionally greatest. The birth of my daughter made me feel a new value as undoubtedly the highest: An unbelievable love for this child and the wealth to accompany this person on the way to his or her own responsible life.
Much later I recognized (legendary at first sight!) the love of my life and won her as my partner – and with her a co-son, whom I have forever deeply in my heart.
Due to teacher unemployment after my studies and traineeship I found access to a collective of theatre and culture enthusiasts (I myself had been involved with theatre plays since I was “engaged” off the streets as a child), was allowed to help establish the Oldenburger Kulturetage and worked in this institution for almost 30 years (press and public relations).
Because I always liked to work with young people, I changed to another school for three and a half years and had a great and fulfilling time as a class teacher, which was also very challenging for me.
With the beginning of my retirement on 1.8.2019 I started the project, which I had been looking forward to for a year: To circumnavigate the Baltic Sea by bicycle, and to do so as close to the water’s edge as possible. That’s why I partly use hiking trails instead of cycle paths and take my time. My motto is: CARBON FREE ROUND THE BALTIC SEA. SAVE THE CLIMATE!
From the beginning I wanted to pass on this experience and also fulfill a second dream: To write about things that move me, on my own website. Here it is!
Because I lived a good 20 years near the Baltic Sea, learned to appreciate its naturalness and spent wonderful times at it, then followed for years my first project, to run its German coast at the water’s edge, and now finally started its circumnavigation, I am the Baltic Sea fan and my page is called after it.
