Ich war nie ein großer „Weltenbummler“. Die zwei außereuropäischen Reisen meines Lebens waren persönliche Besuche: meines Bruders, der in Namibia lebte und meiner Frau, als sie housesittend ein mehrmonatiges Sabbattical in Neuseeland verbrachte. Jetzt möchten wir gar nicht mehr fliegen, dem Klima zuliebe.
Das „House- und Petsitting“ haben wir später als großartige gemeinsame Urlaubsform für Europa entdeckt – mit der Möglichkeit, privat kostenlos zu wohnen und dabei mit Hunden und Katzen in Kontakt zu sein.
Mit dem Rad war ich aber schon immer unterwegs. Sowohl als Verkehrsmittel im Alltag wie im Urlaub, um ein Ziel zu erreichen, als auch auf kleineren Touren oder Radreisen wie den Weser-Radweg oder nach Dänemark, Schweden und weiter, auch schon Italien, zum Teil mit Zug-Anreise.
Heute – als Rentner – hat das Unterwegs-Sein mit dem Rad für mich eine neue Qualität, weil ich länger unterwegs sein kann. So begann ich letztes Jahr eine (etwas andere, weil etappenweise) Ostsee-Umrundung, über die ich im „Reisetagebuch“ berichte und rückwirkend in der Nachlese interessante Begegnungen und Eindrücke zusammenstelle.
Häufiger mache ich jetzt auch kleinere Touren, alleine oder mit Familie. Reisen wie Touren zeichne ich auch mit Komoot auf und poste dazu bei Instagram und Facebook – aber nun vor allem hier auf meiner eigenen Site!

I’ve never been much of a “globetrotter”. The two non-European journeys of my life were personal visits: my brother, who lived in Namibia, and my wife, when she was house-sitting a sabbatical in New Zealand for several months. Now we do not want to fly at all, for the sake of the climate.
We later discovered “house and petsitting” as a great common holiday form for Europe – with the possibility to live privately for free and be in contact with dogs and cats.
But I have always been on the road by bike. Both as a means of transport in everyday life and on holiday to reach a destination, as well as on smaller tours or bicycle trips such as the Weser cycle path or to Denmark, Sweden and further, even Italy, partly by train.
Today – as a pensioner – being on the road by bike has a new quality for me, because I can be on the road longer. So last year I started a (somewhat different, because I did it in stages) circumnavigation of the Baltic Sea, about which I report in my “travel journal” and retrospectively compile interesting encounters and impressions in my „gleanings“.
More often I now also do smaller tours, alone or with my family. I also record my travels and tours with Komoot and post them on Instagram and Facebook – but now mainly here on my own site!
