Am 1. August – dem offiziellen Beginn meiner Rentenzeit – bin ich in Kiel losgefahren Richtung Norden. Immer möglichst dicht am Wasser fahrend ging es oft über schmale Pfade, wenn es nicht weiter ging, wieder ins Landesinnere und bei der nächsten Möglichkeit habe ich wieder getestet, ob es nicht am Wasser weitergeht. Auch die Inseln habe ich nach Möglichkeit an der Küste umfahren, nicht quer durch. Ich habe mir Zeit gelassen, um viel zu sehen. Viele Begegnungen mit Menschen ergaben sich, weil sie auf mein Schild reagierten: „Carbon free round the Baltic Sea. Save the Climate!”
So ging es zwei Monate lang durch Dänemark und Südschweden bis nach Kalmar, von wo ich mit dem Zug wieder nach Hause gefahren bin und am 1. Oktober meine Frau wiedergetroffen habe.

On 1 August – the official start of my retirement – I set off north in Kiel. Always driving as close to the water as possible, I often took narrow paths, if I couldn’t go further, I went inland again and at the next possibility I tested again if I couldn’t go further by the water. I also tried to avoid the islands at the coast, not across them. I took my time to see a lot. Many encounters with people resulted from their reaction to my sign: “Carbon free round the Baltic Sea. Save the Climate!”
So it went for two months through Denmark and southern Sweden to Kalmar, from where I took the train back home and met my wife again on 1 October.
